The population should be a substantial enough size to promote statistically meaningful findings. LeVay found some apparent connection between the size of a specific subsection of the hypothalamus and one's sexual orientation. However, even in concluding this through multiple studies, LeVay could not be certain whether sexual orientation influenced the size of this subsection or vice versa. This uncertainty lends readily to doubt that homosexuality can be determined using genetic evidence alone, particularly given the pressures of social and cultural mores which may influence outward behavior.
